Teachers’ education and training is vital to the ideal of quality education. Establishment of BKTEF- Professional Development Academy (PDA) in 2007 is an initiative of the Foundation towards achieving this ideal for its educational system. The Academy is managed by a professional team having rich background in educational management and teachers’ education.

 

Vision
PDA envisages being a multi dimensional human resource platform that caters to growth of processes of collective and individual learning and instruction for improving educational quality – quality education which is a tool of personal and social growth and development.

 

Key Areas of Focus
Key areas of focus of the Academy are as follow:


Teachers Education

The PDA organizes trainings for teachers of Baacha khan Schools in the following types:

a. Pre-service Teachers Training

basic pedagogical skills, This is a 42 contact hours training program that every newly recruited teacher/teaching assistant must attend prior to
practical teaching into the classroom. Areas like Lesson Planning, Classroom Management, Behavior Management and Morning Meeting form the theme of pre-service training workshop.

 

In-service Training

Diploma Course
In adittion to one week pre-service course, a diploma course for young professionals working with the Foundation. This 100 hours contact hours course is conducted during the summer break. An outline of content takes the following form:

 

Subject-based teaching methodology
Teaching of English, Math, Science, Urdu, Islamyiat, Art and Physical Education are core courses.

 

Basic competencies
Communication skills, developing English spoken skills, lesson planning, class room management, developing low cost educational aid, record keeping, peace education, and maintaining learners’ profiles. The PDA has designs a certificate course in the light of teachers’ areas of development. This is usually 8 contact hours course. This training takes place during summer break.

Refresher courses and trainings follow up, based on students and teachers performance and need assessments carried out at the end of each academic session are also organized to further refine the skills of teachers.
