In the light of the set goals and objectives the key features of our program are

• Free/subsidized educational facilities

The BKEF provides free/subsidized educational services in underserved areas of NWFP. An in-depth strategy to evaluate the financial condition of the students has been devised with a purpose to develop a sense of self reliance and to ensure that quality education reaches at the bottom line of the community. The BKEF has categorized the students into entitled and non-entitled students. The entitled student are exempted from all kinds of educational expenses and are provided uniform , books and other related services free of cost. The non-entitled students are charged as per educational expenses involved.

• Quality education

There is a little point in providing access to education if the quality of education delivered is not all that it should be. Quality has an equity dimension and poor quality of education is often cited as a reason for dropping out among both boys and girls coming from underserved classes.
BKEF attaches much significance to this feature and has made proper arrangements to ensure the delivery of quality educational services. Through community involvement and other initiatives like teachers training programs and an effective monitoring mechanism quality assurance of educational services is maintained.

• Community Participation
The BKEF is a community based system of education where the main role is played by the communities to promote maximum of usefulness of the program. The initial cost ratio of the BKEF and local communities has been set out at 80:20, which gradually turns into 20:80 i.e. the communities contributing most while the Foundation supervising and managing the school system.

• Bi-lingual education
The significance of mother-tongue instruction cannot be over-emphasized at the primary level of education. BKEF applies mother-tongue as a bridge for the students to make a gradual transition to English as a medium of instruction at higher levels. English and Pashto are the medium of instruction at the Primary level.

• Co-ed
There is co-ed from the primary level i.e. from pre-school upto grade v. The idea of co-ed at the primary level is based on the notion that children of both sexes develop positive gender attitudes in the early formative years of their lives. Additionally, co-ed schooling is cost effective.

• Trained Teaching Staff
Trained teachers are a significant feature of our program. In order to ensure the delivery of quality education, BKEF has taken proper measures for teachers’ training and has established an academy for teachers’ professional development. A fundamental Teaching Framework has been developed, which forms the core segment of the pre-service training of the teachers. However, BKEF has made arrangements with training organizations (JAICA, Agha Khan Education Foundation etc.) and individual teacher trainers to conduct in-service training of the teachers on an ongoing basis.

Distinctive Syllabus
In addition to Oxford University Press syllabus, the BKEF is characterized with having a separate syllabus for a number of subjects like history, islamiyat and Pashto. To keep the pedagogical structure in tune with updated trends the room for improvement in the syllabi has been ensured.

• Women Empowerment
BKEF believes in the women being an important part of the society with a number of solemn responsibilities to fulfill. To make their role more effective, BKEF has prioritized women participation at all stages.
Their participation in VECs, training programs and decision making process has produced desirable results in terms of confidence building.
