International Literacy Day Celebrated

World Literacy Day was celebrated at all Baacha Khan Schools with great zeal and enthusiasm on September 8, 2014. People from all walks of life including children, parent, school teachers, academia and elders of the society attended the events.

The events started with the recitation of Quran. Students performed different skits to highlight the importance of literacy and speeches were delivered to throw light on the vision and mission of Baacha Khan. It was pointed out that Baacha Khan was the first person to draw attention of the pashtunes to education and created awareness about the role of literacy in social and economic development. Poets from community and students of Baacha Khan Schools appreciate the values of a literate society.

Students presented skits based on the sayings of Baacha Khan highlighting the importance of literacy, education and mother tongue. Skits on the importance of female education were also performed to encourage female education.

Principals of the Baacha Khan Schools expressed their views on the contributions of various reformers in the field of education. They pointed out that Baacha Khan tried to reform Pashtun Society by opening schools and encouraging boys and girls alike to get educating.

On this occasion, Managing Director BKTEF said in his message that according to UNESCO the theme of International Literacy Day 2014 was “Literacy and Sustainable Development”. He also added that literacy and lifelong learning plays vital role in establishing  sustainable, prosperous and peaceful societies. Basic to advance level literacy skills not only empower people to make right decision in different spheres of life but also needed for enhancing critical thinking, civic sense, nurturing democratic values, participatory governance, biodiversity protection and poverty reduction, he maintained.

Dr. Khadim Hussain appreciated efforts of the BKTEF staff members, principals and teachers of Baacha Khan Schools working with dedication to empower the underprivileged people through quality education.
