Celebration of International Rural Women Day

rural women dayThe Baacha Khan Trust Educational Foundation (BKTEF) collaborated with Potohar Organization for Development Advocacy (PODA) for organizing a conference to mark the international day of Rural Women on the 15th and 16th of October 2011 in Lok Virsa Islamabad.

The broader objective of the conference was improvement of situation of women in the rural areas. The conference which was held on 15th and 16th of October 2011 was titled, “From Food Security to Peace and Security.” The BKTEF succeeded to send some 60 women participants from Baacha Khan Schools, Youth Leadership Trainees and culture associations representing cross sections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.

The Managing Director BKTEF Dr. Khadim Hussain took a daylong session on women narratives and allocations of funds on district level for women development. Principal Baacha Khan School Dargai, Ms. Nusrat Nazir, and folk singer Ms. Qamro Jan from district Mardan were awarded for their outstanding contribution to society, arts and culture and education.

The BKTEF also put a stall on exhibition of works by BKS students, teachers and culture Project Management Team. The conference provided an opportunity to the women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA to develop linkages with rural women leaders from different provinces. The BKTEF women representatives stressed on a common understanding of emerging human rights issues throughout Pakistan. The BKTEF representative also emphasized recognition of a greater role that women can and should play as peace makers.
